€2.6 billion collected through VAT, social security, income tax last year

The Treasury earned €2.612 billion in VAT, social security contributions and income tax last year, finance minister Edward Scicluna revealed.

Responding to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Anthony Agius Decelis, Scicluna said that the government last year collected €48,949,122.78 through VAT, €739,226.020 through social security contributions and €1,184,419,564 through income tax.

The data tabled shows that in all three cases, the figures are the highest collected since at least 2008.

VAT  income increased by 7.65%, social security contributions by 5.73% and income tax revenue by 10.89% when compared to 2014.
