VAT cut on restaurants “will not benefit consumer”

February 22, 2016

According to the General Secretary of the Portuguese Restaurants Association, who was addressing a conference in the northern city of Espinho late last week, the cut in VAT will not be passed on to clients, but will rather see his members make improvements to their establishments or use the extra cash to settle existing debts.

VAT is expected to come down to 13 percent this July, after the Socialist government decided to delay its electoral promise by six months.
